A basic short history. In 1923 International Harvester (a company formed after the merger of McCormick and Deering) named their new row crop tractor the Farmall. Later on they added a smaller and larger model and updated the existing tractor. These were the Farmall F-12, Farmall F-20, and Farmall F-30. The first tractor was later given the model designation of "Regular" to distinguish it from later farmalls. Then followed the letter series etc. Farmall was not a model, more like a brand within a company (to use an analogy, rather like Pontiac is to GM). Farmall was used on IH's row crop tractors, the industrials were Internationals, and the standard tread and orchard tractors were McCormicks. The Farmall name has recently been rolled out again by CNH (the latest version of what was once IH several mergers later) on it's mid-range compact tractors as a selling gimmick. Probably not 100% but I hope it helps, tractorsam
