The cub oil pump is built into the block. That reality limits many repairs (like replace the pump) They do loose prime. Thicker oil will make it some better if driven often. I would fix it by using a small 3/4" plastic check valve on the oil pickup in the pan. This will take some modification of the existing pickup, but it will prevent drainback into the pan while assuring full delivery of oil. Making a new strainer for it, and making sure it has no leaks, and having the suction screen submerged will be mandatory. Good luck, JimN
