If memory serves me right, you cannot remove the ring gear because of a small lip on the flywheel. Trying to drive the ring gear off, will break the lip. The normal procedure is to cut through the ring gear with a hack saw until you touch the flywheel. Then drive a chisel into the cut to break the ring gear. This allows safe removal. The new ring gear must be heated gently and evenly and then slipped into place. After cooling, it is a tight fit. Don
