LA in WI: Harry S Truman was born May 8 1884 so he grew up with horses being used for most everything including plowing. It's stated that he moved back to farming in 1906 and farmed for 10 years. That just about had to be with horses. A couple years ago I walked behind a couple teams of horses plowing. There was a 2 horse team and a 3 horse team. About all I could hear was the squeaking of leather and soft hoof beats on the stubble ground. Very nice to observe. It looked like a very long long day for both the men and horses doing the plowing. Maybe thats why there weren't many fat farmers befor tractors? 1930-1950 movie star James Cagnie loved mowing hay with his Farmall H, as well as many other things in farming. There were a lot of good things to learn working with animals and growing food on a farm before the mechanical world took control of most peoples lives. Harry was right. ag
