You've got most of the story. Allis kind of ambushed IH when the Farmall A and B got into production, and both companies went the rounds. IH hired some private detectives to track downt he original 97 Allis Bs to prove that Allis had sold them more than a year before they applied for the patents in question, which was enver conclusively proved, but it was close. The companies finally settled out of court (they were quite friendly with each other, other than this battle) for $35,000, pretty cheap.
