I bought a 686 (newer version of the same tractor) that was doing that.
In addition, someone had put a cork in the weep hole and just kept right on filling/using the tractor.
It got so darned bad that it was literally throwing oil out around the flywheel area. Thought sure the rear main was out.
PTO input seal was leaking. When they corked 'er up the darned fluid was getting so high that it was running back up the PTO tube and doasing the main clutch.
That tractor ended up taking $14K to finally get to the field. Aren't old tractors fun? :>)
