You are wanting to check the head volume to calculate the compression ratio. I've seen it done using the lexan with a small hole in the middle. Use a light oil to fill it. Just get a large hypodermic syringe that holds about 50cc or so. You don't need the needle. You can find them at the farm supply in the animal health area. You can't beat the syringe for accuracy. Keep track as you put it in. Double check as you remove the oil.
A big syringe is handy for a few things such as sucking up an small oil spill in a tight space, using it as an oiler, etc.
