A few thoughts, some of them unpleasant.
Start by making sure you have the 16 gallons of HyTran you are supposed to have. There's a square 9/16 plug on the left side of the transmission housing to check this. Then check your filter (hydraulic) on the right side behind the hexagonal access plate. Be ready to catch 2-4 quarts of HyTran when you open it up. Sometimes new fluid acts like a solvent and loosens up lots of gunk which clogs up your filter in a New York minute. Your problem sounds similar to the last difficulty I had, and a new filter did the trick.
After that, search this forum, because this subject on this tractor comes up every month or two. There's at least 2 threads I started. There's stuff to go wrong with a worm gear near the front bolster and a little valve that works with it. I still don't understand this. Fortunately, it has yet to be my problem.
The hydraulic and power steering pumps are behind a rectangular access plate on the left side of the transmission. Get a pressure gauge and hook it up, see what you're getting. There is a 12 gpm pump, and a 17 gpm pump; which one depends on the year of your tractor. The power steering pump piggybacks on to the regular hydraulic pump. I replaced both of these and the shaft that drives them last spring. It was painfully expensive. Nobody seems to rebuild them around where I live. But I got my PS back.
That wasn't the end of it. I had the valve banks rebuilt, too.
What sucks is that I couldn't be there to watch/help do the work because of my stupid day job. It is my prayer that the new job I have applied for comes through, as the scheduling on that one will be a lot more flexible. And a lot less time on the road. Not to mention nicer people and better work...
