I noticed that as well. When I got the piece for my '44 H a few years ago it was a single rod, although the parts book shows it as two pieces. It fits just fine. My guess is, the early rods were in two pieces that were replaced by a single rod later.
I'm currently looing for a rod to fit a'50 M that I'm restoring. If you know of one for sale or could send me the dimensions on the one you have, I would be grateful.
