IH brought out the 330 as an interim tractor prior to the 340, so technically it replaced the 330. It has the same engine as the 330, but IH was not yet ready to introduce the 340, thus the 330. The 330/350 preceded the 340, but the 460 replaced the 350. So, I consider the 340 a new model that really did not replace any particular model. 5000+ serials make it a 59 or 60 model, weighs around 4500 lbs. The C 135 engine is a small engine, an outgrowth of the C113-C123 engines in the A-240 so it shouldn't be a gas hog.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
