You will have to remove the bull gear from the axle before you can install the pinnion gear housing. In order to reinstall the bull gear on the axle once the pinnion gear & housing is in place, you will have to slide the axle out a couple of inches, then bring the bull gear into place so that it meshes with the pinnion gear and slide the axle into the bull gear. Not too difficult since you already have the top off.
