well hears the thing, every diesel will be hard starting. I have a farmall 706 diesel with the d282, and just had it overhauled and it starts fine! the one thing i did do to it was put a altnartor & 2 12 volt batteries on it. having good glow plugs & good timing on fuel helps alot!!! no glow.......NO START!!! If you have a choice when buying, if you find a 706 with the german d310 engine you got it made!! Don't get me wrong the d282 is a great engine!!! the c263's & the c291 gas engine were great engine if like burning gasoline like crazy(guzzlers) as they used to be called.
