Gentlemen- The huge benefit of using a dwell meter is that it zips you past contact point adjustment problems involving mechanical issues and rough contact surfaces. The dwell meter reading tells "what it is" as the electrical system sees what is happening. The feeler gage tells a mechanical adjustment dimension. After the point gap, dwell, or however you do it, then adjust the initial timing by rotating the distributor. If you change the points adjustment the initial timing changes... You gotta have the gap/dwell issue nailed down solid before you twist the distributor in it's hole! Again, the dwell meter approach tells what is actually happening and allows very precise contact point adjustment and easy checking while the engine is running. Initial timing is another can of snakes, but you gotta get the points right first. Good luck! IHank
