"should have - would have". Those of us who can reliably read the future have long been retired.
As far as buying the hardware, permits, and fuel to hedge price increases in fuel, it would have been a lot easier just to buy an unleaded futures contract. You would sell it later and use the gain to fill your car, truck, or tractor.
