According to the book I have,the IH 584 was built from 1978 to 1983. 1978 started with sn 501, 1979 with 2130, 1980 with 3871, 1981 with 5766, 1982 with 8001, and 1983 with 8416. So, yours with sn 8038 is a 1982. I have a 584 with sn 8012, pretty close to yours. They are nice tractors. Dan
