Can't say as I'm having that problem with mine. It does take a little feathering of the choke to get it to pop off initially, and it likes about half choke for the first 60 seconds or so, but it's not "impossible" to start. If you get right on the choke as you start cranking, it fires within 2 seconds.
Haven't done anything to mine really except play with the needles, and that didn't affect how it starts. It's always started the same right from the get-go.
Do you have a functional choke? It's perfectly normal for a gas engine to require some choke to get it running, more as it gets colder.
