Mike, it is supposed to go through that hole. Lots of folks over the years knew enough to take 'em apart, but didn't know enough to put 'em back together, so that choke rod ended up in many strange places. I even had one where someone ran the choke rod right up the side of the tractor and through a hole they drilled in the headlight bar. What a mess that one was.
