Myself i do not mess with pumps , I pull them off and run them over to a good friend that has a pump shop . He does not hammer me and if the pump need rebuilt it is done and if it need just a couple seals then that is done . IF you pull the pump off just make sure 100% sure that you are on TDC BEFORE ya pull the pump . Myself i always pull the valve cover to make sure that the #1 cyl. valves are closed and the timing pointer is set at #1 and since i hve the valve cover off when the pump goes back on i run the valves . Since valve adjustment is like wheel bearing and never checked or adjusted it is time.
