There are differences in original depth, but I feel an inch and a quarter is about all there is on a new tire, so 3/4 of an inch measured at about half a tread bar from center would be OK The traction would be useless when at less than 7/16 or so. Wear is usually uneven from center to sidewall. The wear is also dependant on how much road travel at what inflation. If you are looking for average soil pulling power, more than 1/2 worn tires will slip more. if light pulls in fairly compacted soil, there won't be much of an issue. Carcas cracks and checks are more important. JimN
