The alterntotrs required Lil No 1 side terminal excitation voltage needs to be fed from the downhill switched (IGN) side of the ignition switch, of course, the same terminal that wires to the ignition coils input or you can feed it direct from the coils input (NOT to distributor) terminal so its hot ONLY when the ignition is turned ON on....... Then if the tractor keeps running even with the Ignition switch off cuz the alterntor is backfeeding the coil, simply place a 10 ohm current limiting resistor in series with the wire/circuit leading to the Lil No 1 side terminal. Some use a Diode there (must be wired - cathode side towards alternator) instead n that works fine cuz it serves as a one way electrical current check valve allowing current into the alternator to excite it BUT NOT out of the alternator to backfeed the coil........
This is for a GM 10SI 3 wire alternator and they require neg ground remember.
