If jumping with 6v system, just keep the vehicles apart, and use the jumpers neg tothe neg on both batteries, then hook the positive to the live battery, and the positive jumper to the starter bolt of the tractor. If using a 12v, hook the positive on the vehicle to the starter bolt head as above, then hook the negative to the vehicle chassis ground, and (with it in neutral, brakes locked, and clutch blocked down, touch the business end of the negative jumper cable to the starter side bolt/terminal of the starter relay on the starter. With the key on, the 12v will not be going into anything but the starter motor (they do not care what voltage they get), and the regular battery will start the ignition. If the tractor's battery is stone dead, it is best to charge it for a while first. Do not get runover. JimN
