I also have a 606. Here's what you need to do first, take the shift lever off. Becareful as the lever is sring loaded and will push back against the bolts as you turn them out. Once you have this off. try to move the shifting forks (slotted rails) back and forth. The one on the left is 4th and 5th. If they move real easy the fork is broken. I fixed mine myself and "I aint no mechanic". But it took me a couple weekends to disassemble, diagnose and repair.
