If you are talking about the original belly lift for the "H", then yes, pipe plugs are the accepted practice. Leave the lift control rod in a neutral or float position (all the way down) and no power is used other than to turn some gears in oil. If the lift rod is pulled, the hydraulic oil will be pumped against the pressure relief and you should hear some lugging of the engine. This will not hurt short term, but could result in leaks in seals or fittings if left long term. Can also add quick connects if replacing the loader or other attachments regularly.
