If I remember correctly, the 4 position was Low, for low speed charge; High, for high speed charge, Bright and Dim should be self evident.
I personally plan on wiring in the rear light to come on with, probably, the low charge position, vice using it to charge, since I think that is no longer needed with a modern system. But I will ask those questions when I get ready to do it.
