You don't have to split the tractor. You will have to drop the belly pump, if there is one. Then you will have to remove the input shaft coupling. The coupling held together with 4 bolts. The bolts have a tapered section on them and will have to be knocked loose with a hammer, loosen the nut until it is flush with the end of the bolt, then hit the nut with a hammer until it comes loose. Each bolt has two rubber washers & steel cups, make note of their positions and make sure they are put back the same way. 2 of the bolts have the nuts facing toward the rear of the tractor and there is not enough room to swing a hammer, what I have done to get those two loose is to rotate the shaft until the nut lines up with one of those three bolt heads and then take a pry bar and pry foward on the tapered bolt until it pops loose. Now remove the bolt that holds the yoke on the transmission shaft, the yoke will then slide off. Now remove the 3 small bolts and the seal retainer will come off. Just knock the old seal out and install a new one.
While you are at it, you may want to replace the seal on the lower shaft too.
