I know on my Drag car that when the battery was put in the trunk it had the same problem.
I had a brand new battery cables on it and everything was new. It took having a ground from the engine block to ground as well as off the battery to solve the problem. The ground has to be good and proper gauge, make sure there isn"t any paint keeping it from grounding good to the block.
I had a friend who couldn"t get a custom Harley started ! I scraped some paint to get a good ground and it started .
