Just curious, ya want 12v and for it to look like it just came off the assembly line, correct. Well if ya use an alternator, who is going to see it? It would be up under the hood and how many people are going to walk up and look under your hood to see if it has a generator or alternator?? hhmmmmmm
If you use a Mitsubishi or Hytachi alternaor, would fit under the hood with room to spare...Now I'm not advocating switching to 12v but if your going to convert why not go to some far more effecient less trouble some. As for 12v battery there are number of them that will fit in an older tractor 6v battery box.
I converted Son's SC to 12v, battery box is in limited space,9 3/8 long. I built new box out of 10 gage sheet metal which limited me even more making inside measurement 9 1/8" haven't had a problem finding a battery to fit, Even Wal Mart has a few.
