My home is electric with 2x6 construction and it does get cold here in winter; a real bad winter day will see a high of 50F and mid to high teens at night. Cummins HO is a 2001 that is capable of running on 5% biodiesel; 2002 and later Dodge Cummins pickups can run on 20% bio, I understand that Chevy and Ford diesels don't have that flexibility. My '47 Farmall M is an lpg conversion, probably in the '60s, lpg was $2.52/gal delivered to the property a couple of weeks ago. Diesel by comparison is an outrageous $4.01 gallon, but did see bottom of the tank stuff at $3.86/gal.
There's a lot of research being conducted with algae as bio, greater production output than corn with daily harvest and it only needs 2.5" of precip a year.
