Tom: You still haven't answered my question,"IS THAT CROSS MEMBER ATTACHED TO BACK OF MOWER DECK AT MID POINT ON CROSS MEMBER?" It looks like it may be in photos 2 and 3, however in the original photo, I'm not so sure. If the cross member is attached, how is it attached.
Quite frankly your mower looks like it should work. As far as the chain lift goes, it doesn't matter much how you have it on when using gauge wheels. My chain is loose all the time I'm mowing, about the only time I ever lift it is to cross a rut or threshold of my shop door. If it weren't for the door and some road ruts I have to cross, I could throw the chain lift away. It is nice to be able to pick it up when removing blades for sharpening though.
