On the flip side, if you think too much, you end up sheltering the kids to the point where they either grow up afraid of their own shadows, or hit puberty, rebel, and end up on the wrong side of the tracks. Either way, they can't contribute to society in a productive fashion.
Was putting the kids on that tractor the smartest idea? Probably not. Did anyone get hurt? Apparently not. Could something have gone horribly wrong? Sure. What are the odds of something going horribly wrong? Not too likely, if you ask me.
What those kids did take away from that experience, even if they didn't realize it consciously, is a lesson in responsibility. Mommy or Daddy told you to hang on tight, you did, and you were rewarded by being allowed to do someting really cool, drive the tractor all by yourself.
