Your block may be full of rust and crude. I would drain the cooling system. Fill it with vinegar and then run it till good and warm/hot. Let it cool down and then drain it and if it has a block drain rig up a way to back flush it with a garden hose. INSTALL a thermostat funny but they will run hot with out one. It may take flushing it a few times with the vineager to get it good and clean. BTDT many times
