Unusual rear end cover on H

I went to pick up my ATV at the shop today and noticed they had an H to pull a little trailer around with. It had the style of seat with the big coil spring up front and the flip over seat.
The odd part ,that I had never seen before, was an indented, rectangular area where the seat assembly could go down into. It was about 2" deep.

I was in a hurry, so didn't look at serial # or get a pic. This indentation was cast right into the rear end cover.

Any info on this?
