Mark: I don't have the answer, but also wouldn't be surprised if what your reading is correct. Lets face it IH came with twin shaft 540 and 1000 PTO back in 1963. Massey had 540 as well as ground drive PTO by the mid 60s, one shaft but two different gears so to speak.
I've seen European built tractors with 3 point hitches on each end and PTO on rear, side and front, and I suspect they were both 540 and 1000 RPM. I hauled two of them for a friend in 1978. It wouldn't surprise me if CaseIH finally decided they must catch up on technology.
