On my 1925 10-20 the exhaust goes towards the operator through the "fire wall" and then makes a hard 90 degree turn. It then follows the intake pipe up. But on my 1931 10-20 the exhaust goes through the side curtain. My grandfather told me that the early models did not go through the side curtain, but the later models did.
