B-414 timing marks

I am rebiulding my B-414 diesel. When I took it apart all the timing marks lined up except the one on the cam gear. The injector pump gear, the idler gear and the crank gear all lined up but the cam gear mark was 5 teeth advanced. It ran OK when I took it apart except for the smoking and the oil in the radiator. Has anyone ever seen this before? Should I put it back together the way it was or put it back together according to the book?
