I spent alot of time cleaning out the grooves for the o-ring seals and the shoulder at the top of the sleeve, and mine sealed well. The manual says 0.003-0.007 is normal range for the sleeve protruding over the top of the block. I would suggest you reseat all the sleeves and replace the head gasket (after inspecting pistons and sleeves as previously mentioned for possible damage).
