I have to agree with Mark, up to a point. I've seen too many high school graduates who aren't even capable of filling out an employment application. Heaven forbid we should flunk someone and make them repeat a class or an entire grade.
I recently read a test required for graduation from the 8th grade 100 years ago. I have 5+ years of college, and I'd be hard put on some of it without some serious boning up. I admit, lack of communication skills by our current general population is a sore spot with me. We're producing an entire society of functional illiterates, and the problem isn't with just the current generation. It goes back through several generations of parents and grandparents who spend more time harrassing teachers instead of working with the teachers to challenge the students to learn something.
Now, as communication skills apply to this board, how can someone expect to get an informed and intelligent solution to something if they're not capable of expressing their problem coherently? I've read some posts several times without ever figuring out what the person was getting at.
