You can almost never go wrong by using an oil with a hydraulic/transmission designation in a gearcase or hydraulic application. For the late nite or unprepared people such as myself, Wally World (Wal-Mart) carries both types of hydraulic oil in pails up to 5 gal. In some of the late model John Deere industrial equipment, 30-wt motor oil is used in the engine, powershift transmission, hydraulic system, differentials and final drives.
