Hi Russ at 2044 Hrs it is hardly broken in. My brother still has 454 (older model of 484) that we bought in 1972 with over 15,000 Hrs, still starts and runs great. We put on 16.9 x 28 rear tires, fluid and weights and had the pump turned up so that it was putting out over 50HP but with no surprise, the second year we had it had to put a HD clutch from 674 in it. We pulled a 10ft IH disk, 3x14 plow, baler with thrower and 1 row IH#16 forage harvester. Later my brother also purchased the newer model 495 but the 454 will out pull it any day.
The weak point of these tractors are the hydraulic brakes, the seals in the wheel cylinders leak after many years and air gets in the braking system. The other problem is if someone leaves the parking brake on and drives the tractor. The chewed up parking brake band bits get into the hydraulic system and cause MCV valve problems.
Use 15W-40 Diesel engine oil and add some conditioner or couple of table spoons of engine oil to the Diesel tank every time you fill up. This will help lube the front lip seal on the fuel injection pump as the new low sulphur fuel does not have the required lubricity for the older injection pumps.
