There are two seals involved in the braking system. Lets start with the smaller of the two. It is called the countershaft brake lever shaft. It is the shaft that protrudes from the transmission housing and the brake handle and the front wheel brake actuating mechanism fasten to. That seal part number is 23676 D and it will work for 42176 D. The other seal is for the countershaft itself. That is the splined shaft the brake drum mounts on. That seal number is 23702 D. It rides on a spacer that fits around the counter shaft. Since it doesn't sound like you have the top of the transmission off here's a suggestion that has worked for me. For the countershaft seal, drill a 1/8" hole through the metal of the seal parallel to the shaft. Drill another 1/8" hole 180 degrees from the first one. Install a couple of #10 sheet metal screws into the drilled holes. Use a couple of small pry bars under the heads of the screws and the seal should pop right out. Make sure you have drilled the holes in a position where you will be able to use your pry bars. Hope this helps.
