The Super A-1 I have has the plate on the seat support bracket and has the prefix FAA-1. My serial number is 356054, which indicates a very early production (maybe Jun-July 1954, since the castings date from Mar to May 1954). It is quite possible they may have transitioned the plate for later A-1's to the bell housing, as has been suggested in earlier postings. Your serial number does indicate a 1949 model.
