As previously stated the 2444 is the industrial 444. Same serial number sequence. Also many parts from a 424 will work on a 2444. the engine is different but much else is the same.
On the weak points, you have already hit the main one, weak brakes. They can be made to work reasonable though, check back a couple of days on this forum and you will find a thread on this topic.
Also if your SN plate begins with B it is a british version with lucas electrical and if it begins with a U it is a US version with Delco electrical.
