Im in the process of completing a valve job on an IH 460 gas. During removal of the rocker assembly, some of the small [tappets] that fit in the end of the rocker arms ,which depress the valve stems fell out . Should these tappets be free floating, or should they be locked in place ? One shop told me the latter, and said the rocker arm should be slightly peened to retain them .Am not so sure and would appreciate another opinion .
