That's the way it was done! The stacker I worked in wasn't metal frame, though, it was wooden frame with a cable drawn slide. The cage was vertical lengths of #9 wire cnnected at the lower end to a chain that helped form the lower circumference of the stack. The chain was split at the back and held together by a boomer until the stack was built, then release and the stacker pulled away and positioned for the next stack. Working inside was the cage got real busy when you had 2 sweeps pushing hay at you and antsy driver pulling the stacker cable. Been buried more'n once. Then, if you REALLY want some excitement in your life, have one of the sweep scoop up a bull snake! May as well have been a rattler, when that thing came falling from the sky, I was outa there. Flying snake ain't natural, I tell ya! :-) G
