If you are purchasing a tractor and don't know when it was changed last, it would be a good idea to change it.
An H holds six gallons. I use the 85w-140 in mine since it gets used in the cold winter months as well as the hot summer months. For a parade tractor or lighter use the SAE 90 gear lube will probably be cheaper.
How often to change? Any time it gets water in it and looks milky or when it looks metallic from metal shavings.
