Sounds to me like a fuel issue. You should only have to mess with the choke for a minute or two (unless it's really cold) when you first start operating the machine and that's it. Sounds to me like you might have a restriction in the fuel system someplace or maybe water in it. Check your filter in the carb and if you have an inline filter replace it (some folks don't like em and will tell you to pitch them, but I've never had a problem with em and we have em on all our old gassers with no issues as long the filter is clean and not plugged up) You might also have some junk in the main jet on the carb as well.
