Hi Dave, not familiar with IH 238 but am familiar with B414D. If it is like a B414D then it will have a British made BD154 ci engine with glow plug start. Now if it was assembled in USA it would have Delco Remy electrics instead of the dreaded Lucas electric that was on the British assembled ones. The BD154 engine was used in several industrial and ag models up to mid 1980s. B414,434,444,384,424,3414,3444,2444,7000 Forklift just some of the models.
If it is a BD154, BD154 will be stamped on the right side of the engine below the lift pump and hydraulic pump.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
