Hello Hugh, There is alot of tractors around here with out the tool. my advice was for removing a wheel and tire with the tractor on the ground when you hit the bolt head the tire takes the shock. if you had the axle in the air then the wheel bearings would take the load and you might hurt some thing. the object to getting it off is to get the wedges apart or knock the inside wedge out.
