The 4-terminal VR terminals should be labelled A, B, F and L. When your tractor was originally wired the supply to the ignition and light switch was fed from the VR's "L" terminal.
However if someone replaced original VR with a 3 terminal unit, the ign/light feed wire got relocated from the new VR's non-existent "L" to its "A".
You can wire up your new VR same as the old one and leave the new VR's "L" terminal unconnected. Or you can relocate the ign/light feed wire to the new VR's "L".
The 2nd option is preferred - but the charging system will work fine wired either way...
