Jason, I found the article. The T/A is only ment for sort periods. Its just ment to get you through the rough spot. It has its own flywheel clutch pressure plate and dry throw-out bearing. With the leaver ahead the throw-out bearing is not spinning and the engaged clutch causes the whole T.A. unit to spin as a soild unit with no gear reduction. when you pull the leaver back it release the clutch and the T.A. starts doing its job. There is onething at the back of the T.A. that has to work to make it run in T.A. mode. They call it a over running or "sprag" clutch. It is used to hold the housing with the gears in it still so the gear reduction can happen if it is not working you won't get the T.A. action. If you engaugethe T.A. and you hear a little whine and the tractors stops moving then you have a bad sprag clutch.
I got this info out of Red Power Magazine. Vol23, No3 It has a great atricle on the T.A.'s in it and the next issue says its going to talk about adjusting, rebuilding and where to get parts for them..
Good luck and I hope I have helped :)
